It talked about how the content in an experience can affect how the information is understood.

There was something that I found confusing yet interesting that it touched upon in the reading. It went on to talk about how important the senses are and how the more senses you can create in your design the more memorable it will be. The five senses are vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. I can understand how vision and hearing can add a lot to the design but I do not fully understand how taste touch and smell can be added to the design. It talked forever about how smell is so important and different smells remind us of different experiences. I think scientist are still looking into adding the other senses to designs, but it is not likely that these devices will become standard in computers anytime soon. I guess in this weeks reading they were just trying to look into the future of how designs can be even more effective. This website shows one of the few attempts to create online olfactory experiences. However there were several potential problems with these devices. It will be a long time, if ever, before these devices are common.

A picture can say a thousand words. If you go to this website you will see what I mean. You could easily describe what they are doing on their skateboards, but a picture says so much more. This website allows people to send in their own pictures of them skating. That is another reason why it is so successful. Participation of the audience is key to many successful experiences.
Storytelling is one of the oldest and still most powerful tools because it organizes information in a way that allows us to draw meaning and create knowledge. It can be used as a way to make difficult concepts more accessible and understandable. Don't be afraid to use some sort of story guidelines when creating your experience. I am going to try to have a few short stories in my design that I am creating right now and see if it helps people relate to what I am trying to get across.

This weeks reading in Experience Design was a lot like last weeks. It emphasized the importance of feedback and adaptive interactions. Conversations are the most important way we can learn and they are the most memorable.

Some of the reading was actually about blogger and why it is such a success. It is an easy way to start conversation between cite owners or visitors. It allows more complex interactions without knowing programming. Anyone can use blogger. It is simple to use and has more complex interactions. Memorable interactions are those that are personal, communicate to each other, and work in a way that makes it seem that we are actually with the person in a conversation. Personalized sites become successes. Blogger became a success because of the adaptive interactions.

All successful communities should have the ability of members to create persistent identities. The creation of identity is one of the most important aspects of our lives. Blogger is an interaction that does exactly that.

Generally people expect to be treated as they treat others, and expect to interact with systems in the same way they interact with people.

Get people invovled. Insight and participation can be a positive aspect to the ineraction. It is a good reminder of the experience if they participate in the experience and the creation of space.

MUDs (Multi-User Domains) or MOOs (Multi-User Domains Object Oriented) have been in operation for 10 years according to Experience Design. The following website contains more information about MUDs.

Although MUDs and MOOs are helpful, it is important to give the right amount of feedback. Too little feedback may not be helpful or may be frustrating. Too much feedback may be overbearing and distracting. It is important to know a little about MOOs and MUDs before you get involved with one.

The next 50 pages in Experience Design talk about how it is important to relate and give personal feedback to the viewer. The simple "HELLO, ..." message at the top of Amazon's site is one of the key reasons the experience of shopping on that retailer is so satisfying to the customer. It is similar to way back when customers used to shop repeatedly at the same local stores, store owners knew them and treated them more like friends. That is why the same person would keep going back. It may seem minor, but if you also visit amazon.com , the Hello and then your name followed by the hello, if you are a member, may make you feel a sense of friendliness and belonging.

Ultimately what is important is not the technology, but the people served by it. Technology problems are usually easy to solve, while meeting peoples needs is usually much harder.

After designing an experience, you should get feedback from a fresh pair of eyes. You have to be open to suggestions and new ideas.

All experiences should strive to adapt themselves to the differences each person has such as age and gender. Experience design mentioned that just like a fancy resaturaunt that has a good atmosphere and everything you want already in it, you still need to adapt to people in different ways. An elderly couple you would probobally treat with a lot of respect and kindness, while a younger couple might like it better if you are silly and joke around with them. One was is not right or wrong, but if you throw in a little of both, respect and jokes, then you can more likely grab both of the ages attention.

Make sure the experience is designed for the audience to find meaning and make connections with their own life. It will have a long lasting impact if they can relate it to their lives.

Test to make sure everything works the way you want it to. If it does not work well, people will not go back to it.
For example, My friend was buying tickets to a concert over the summer. When she clicked the BUY NOW button, the screen would say that the transaction could not be completed. It took all of my friends money because she tried it 4 times, but it didn't purchase the tickets. She is defintely never going to use this website again. It doesn't matter how much she wants to get tickets to go to a concert, she will never go there again. They lost a customer because it did not work properly

Experience design kept talking about how there is no one way to layout the design. It was a lot like the last 25 pages.
More importantly than the reading I learned something very important this weekend.
I learned that there are a lot of crazy messed up people in this world and everyone must be careful.

Me and some of my friends were at this huge bar Saturday night. It was packed with people. We were all having fun and eventually some of us got split up. My friend let this guy buy her a few drinks. He evidently slipped some sort of date rape drug in her drink. She does not remember one thing from that night and woke up in her dorm the next day at 5 p.m. She still doesn't know what happened. It is just a very scary thing for her to not be able to remember anything that happened to her. Hopefully nothing bad happened to my friend.

I have learned to never let people I don't know buy me drinks because its not worth the few bucks anyways. It doesn't matter how normal they look. Everyone just has to be careful because there are some crazy and sick people out there in this world. Everyone has heard stories like this, but until it happens to someone you know, you don't really think it could happen to you.

Experience Design talks a lot about visual design in the last 25 pages. Visual design can affect the quality of the material shared on your site.

The more sites I have been exploring, the more I can see what's effective and what's not.

You must understand the minds of the audience when designing a site. Do not design it for yourself because you are most likely interested in what you are creating. Instead, design it for a person who might have no interest at all in your topic. Think how you can make it even interesting for them and grab their attention. If you can grab the uninterested peoples attention, you will definitely be able to grab the people who are interested in your topic as well.

Make your viewers understand your topic and see it in an interesting way. But remeber, to make it so ANYONE can understand. It is not enough for just a percentage of people to understand the layout and what you are trying to get across. There is no one right answer or layout. Try to explore many options before settling.

The book emphasizes on staying away from opinion because it can very easily be misinterpreted to be actual facts. It may be okay in some cases, but most of the time it is inappropriate.

We have become very accustomed to certain standard views that we sometimes there might be better ways to visualize something. This site showed many creative ways of viewing the same things. This sight helped me open my mind to many possibilities that are all completely different.

For a website to be effective it must have an easy design, good wealth of descriptive information, and most importantly be clear and easlily accesible.

If a website can effectively accomplish these skills, it has the potential to be the best. Www.match.com has conquered this idea and has been one of the best, if not the best, match-maker sight for the last 10 years.

Different ways of organizing data will have different impacts on the viewer. There is no one right way of organizing a website as long as the concepts are communicated clearly.

The book states that data is raw and overabundant. In making our websites, we must make sure that the information in not cluttered or placed randomly. Since there is not one correct way to organize our website, experimenting with the layout is a good idea. Each layout creates a different mental mood and new understanding of the data.

The book states, "Knowledge also builds upon itself, making it increasingly easiedr to aquire more knowledge". In relating this to our website, i think it means that we should not put all of our facts in one spot. Instead we should have interesting quick facts with links to more summarized interesting quick facts. If this is created right, the viewer will want to explore more and more. That way the knowledge keeps building upon itself. If all the facts are thrown in one spot it will become an overload and nothing will be read at all.

In conclusion a clear organization is key to creating a great website.

HI!!!!
I am very excited to be taking IDD250. I love to be creative in designing layouts. I can not wait to learn about all of the aspects of design that can be created in this class.

The reading explains just how important layout and design are. If the design and layout do not capture the viewers attention, it really doesn't matter how interesting the facts may actually be. Without an attractive layout, the information will not even be looked at. The first step in creating a good websight, is making a creative layout that jumps out at the viewer and makes them want to explore more.

I noticed that this book is a perfect example of having a creative layout. Without the attractiveness in the layout and design of this book, the readings would not have been as pleasurable to read. The layout definitely helped capture my attention.

The book refers to ATMs and the convienince it has brought to the world. ATMs are located everywhere and make life more easy and pleasurable. Just like in website's, they must be convienient and bring the person to where they want to be without getting lost. This does not mean it can not be fancy and unique, it means there must be direction.

There must always be a conclusion which provides some sort of resolution to make the otherwise enjoyable experience satisfactory. Without conclusion you have just wasted the time of the audience.

My favorite line from the reading is "When you create your next experience, consider how it might exceed not only your assumptions and expectations but those of your audience as well". I hope to be able to accomplish this very soon.

Although everyone has the potential to be creative, a lot of times we will get stuck. I came across this website with tips just in case myself or anyone else is in a knot. for a little help click here
